The Crusader castle was built by the Knights of St. John between 1402 and 1409. After being defeated in Symrna,
the Knights came to Halikarnassos and began the construction of the castle. Unknowingly, they used many stones from the
great tomb of Mausolus. Today on the walls of the castle you can see lots of stones from Mausoleum, one of the seven
wonders of the ancient world. The Mausoleum. . . Mausolus was the ruler of the Caria Kingdom between 377 and 353 BC,
he made Halikarnassos its capital. Then he enclosed his new capital with a huge wall. He also adorned the city with
splendid edifices, the most famous of which was the Mausoleum which he designed as a great Carian shrine dedicated to
himself. His sister-wife Artemisia completed it after he died during her own reign. It was so beautiful that it became
one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

The Village Life
Anybody who has travelled extensively will tell you that the Turks are the friendliest people in the world. The authentic villages located inlands can help you to examine the different aspects of the same region. Even, half an hour distance makes a big change of environment, colours, sounds as well as the lifestyle of people. Walking through small streets, visiting a village house, the hot welcome of the village chief, watching women weaving carpets, the cemetery, the mosque, children shouting 'hello', the coffee house where men sit around and laze away the day while drinking their tea chatting and playing games will all be helpful to understand their life. In the end, a short exhibition of carpets weaved by the young ladies of the village will take place.
A passion for wine: it’s the only thing that fully defines the journey of the Yürüt family, which started 20 years ago with homemade wine and continues today with Vinbodrum,
a label that boasts a production capacity of 10 tons and 12,000 bottles a year! The vintage from Bodrum and its surrounding region is
indispensable for the Vinbodrum team, who abide by a mindset of small-scale and boutique wine production.
The grapes are brought to the winery early in the morning, then immediately put through the destemmer and
transported to the steel tanks on the lower level of the winery via a fully automated system.
To date the Yürüt family has refrained from using heavy wine presses as well as filtering its wine.
The Vinbodrum team seeks to improve the quality of their wine day after day while introducing this prized taste of Bodrum to the world at large.
