Bodrum City half day tour
Discover Bodrum
Visiting The Castle of Bodrum, Ancient theatre and the Mausoleum, Old City and the city centre
One of the world's finest museums of underwater archeology housed in a superb 15th century castle built by the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. The world's oldest known shipwreck exhibition is now open. This star attraction rates a 'must see' on everyone's list. The Mausoleum of Halikarnassus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its monumental statuary is in the British Museum but some artifacts and replicas of its friezes can be seen on the site. The Amphitheater seating about 13. 000 spectators the theater dates to the region of Mausolus but with modifications added by the Romans. The guide will create a suggested itinerary, but on the day itself there’s always room to adapt the program according to your personal preferences. The idea is to offer a mix of culture, nature, and a taste of traditional village life.
*Proposed itinerary:*
* Visit to *Bodrum Castle*, with its beautiful views over the harbor and old town.
* Optionally, a quick stop at the charming *ancient amphitheatre*.
* Free time to stroll through the *authentic streets of Bodrum center*, with local boutiques, cafés, and plenty of atmosphere.
* Then, about a 30-minute drive inland to the traditional Turkish village of *Etrim*.
In Etrim, you’ll get a genuine glimpse into rural Turkish life and experience the locals’ renowned hospitality. This includes:
* Tea at the village café where men gather to chat and play games,
* A visit to the small mosque and village square,
* And a stop at the *Etrim Weavers Association*, where local women will demonstrate the traditional art of hand-knotting carpets.
You’ll also see a small exhibition of carpets and kilims from different parts of Turkey. For those interested, there’s an opportunity to purchase, though there’s absolutely no pressure. Many of our guests who visited shops in Istanbul or Cappadocia found this to be a fairer and more authentic experience.
